Penderyn Rich Oak - 46%
From the distillery website
This is the latest addition to our Gold Range. Limited Edition Rich Oak Single Cask and 50% bottlings have won major international awards, and so we are delighted to make Rich Oak a permanent fixture in our range. It is matured in a range of specially selected ex-bourbon and rejuvenated oak casks. This whisky has a Kosher certificate.
Nose: Dark chocolate fudge with cinnamon and pepper spices, followed by lush fruit – green apples, mango, banana and guavas.
Palate: Rich and complex. A creamy texture with hints of vanilla, oak and cinnamon, and a hint of nutty toffee.
Finish: A creamy-vanilla flavour which is in no rush to ebb away.
Tasting Notes:
Appearance: Deep gold, beads eventually fall as slow, thick legs.
Nose: Crunchy nut cornflakes, mango, vanilla pod and a hint of old oak.
Palate: Baked apple with cinnamon, vanilla custard, caramel toffee, barley water, citrus peel, nutty oak.
Finish: Creamy vanilla caramel toffee lingers on the palate.
Summary: A very pleasant, easy drinking whisky where the finish is the star of the show. For me this is a big step up on the Madeira and Sherrywood bottlings, offering more complexity and a superior mouthfeel and finish. Priced at around £45 this is well worth a try as an everyday whisky.
