Glen Moray Forbidden Fruit - 40%

Forbidden Fruit is the latest in the Glen Moray cask exploration Xperience range, joining Twisted Vine and Phoenix Rising. The spirit was initially matured in ex-bourbon casks, before finishing in Calvados casks and bottled at 40% abv

Tasting notes:

Appearance: Old gold in colour, forms a thin line which beads before gradually falling as thick, oily legs

Nose: Green apples, caramel sauce, runny honey and vanilla cream

Palate: Baked Bramley apple with a dusting of cinnamon, vanilla custard, caramel sauce, toasted barley and a touch of oak spice

Finish: Long, lingering and slightly drying. Cinnamon spiced orchard fruit crumble with a toasted nut topping, moderately drying oak, baking spices and a hint of old leather

Overall: Another from the Glen Moray affordable, easy drinker section that they do so well. Bearing a lot of similarities to the 12 year old, the addition of the Calvados cask finish has added an extra dimension and enhanced the orchard fruit notes. Currently under £40, and one of the better Calvados cask finishes I’ve tried, even at a lowly 40% abv.
