Cask Orkney 15 - 46% - AD Rattray
From the AD Rattray website
Cask Orkney 15 Year Old single malt scotch whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks. Created to celebrate the Neolithic folklore of Orkney, it captures the island spirit with a deeply engaging and perfectly balanced malt.
Tasting Summary - Subtle smoke, stone fruit and spice.
Appearance: Yellow gold, beads before falling slowly as thick legs.
Nose: Slightly spicy, stewed stone fruit, butterscotch toffees, cinnamon, a hint of sandalwood, and subtle smoke.
Palate: Creamy, indulgent mouthfeel, stewed stone fruit, milk chocolate enrobed orange and lemon strands, vanilla cream and a touch of ginger. Heather honey and soft bonfire smoke bring it all together.
Finish: Long and lingering, with a drying, oaky nuttiness, orange crème brûlée, a trace of gentle peat smoke and hint of spice.
Summary: Lovely balance and mouthfeel, in many ways this bears many similarities to the Cask Orkney 18 which had a lot of the characteristics of Highland Park. The chocolate orange note, almost reminiscent of Jaffa cakes, is a very welcome addition to the party. Overall, a really well put together whisky, non chill filtered, natural colour, decent abv and, at a price of around £55, good value for money.
