Gordon & MacPhail Tomintoul 24 Year Old 2001 (cask 6273) - 55.7%
A single cask bottling from the Connoisseurs Choice range. Fully matured in a refill American Oak hogshead
Tasting notes
Appearance: Chardonnay in colour, forms a thick line which falls as slow, thick legs
Nose: Green apples, vanilla, honey and softly floral
Palate: Soft mouthfeel, green apples, fresh pineapple, vanilla ice cream and white pepper heat
Finish: Medium length, apples and vanilla slowly disperse leaving peppery warmth and a hint of oak.
Summary: A really interesting, great quality whisky. Light, gentle and floral, making it a perfect summer dram. Despite the age, there’s a very enjoyable freshness about it.
The only sticking point is the price, currently residing a little over £200. As much as I enjoyed trying it, it’s not at a price point I would contemplate buying.
