Our founder, George Koutsakis, was on a mission to celebrate the art of blending to bring together all that was great about the world of Scotch into one incredible blend. At the same time George was busy perfecting his recipe a chance introduction to F1 legend Jenson Button led to a conversation around his love of coachbuilding and the similarities between that and the art of blending whisky and Coachbuilt was born.
A blend of all five regions of Scotland, finished in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks. Lightly peated, it offers a balanced profile of fruit, gentle spice and rounded sweetness, bottled at 46% for depth and character.
Tasting notes:
Appearance: The colour of an oak aged Chardonnay, forms a thin line which falls as slow, thick legs
Nose: Ripe tropical fruit, buttery caramel, runny honey and a touch of oak spice
Palate: Soft, buttery mouthfeel, milk chocolate caramels, cinnamon, nutty oak, a hint of soft smoke and a prickle of black pepper
Finish: Drying, mildly bitter with oak nuttiness, cinnamon and black pepper
Overall: The first statement on the website reads “The Art Of Fusion: Redefining Blended Scotch Whisky”…so have they achieved that? I would have to say no, they’ve developed a nice, well balanced, easy drinking blend. Not so much redefining as adding to the plethora of blends already out there.
Whilst they probably wouldn’t appreciate me calling this a celebrity brand, the website leans very heavily on the presence of Jensen Button as co-founder. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a pleasant enough whisky and will probably be a great base for a highball. It’s just for me there’s nothing special or out of the ordinary about it. I’d go as far as saying they really need that celebrity connection to make it stand out a little from a packed crowd.
A decent blended whisky, and currently around £45 a bottle. Not bad value, but you can get both single and blended malts in the same price range which bring more bang for the buck.
