Glen Moray Smoky 12 - 46.3%
Lightly peated Glen Moray spirit, matured in a combination of American and European oak casks and bottled at 46.3%
Tasting notes:
Appearance: Old gold in colour, forms a thin line which beads before gradually falling as thick, oily legs
Nose: Ashy, sweet bonfire smoke, bbq meats, crème brûlée with a slightly burnt caramelised sugar crust
Palate: Soft, sweet peat smoke, barbecued pork, stewed rhubarb with creamy vanilla custard, drying oak and cinnamon warmth
Finish: Long, with soft smoke, and mildly astringent oak lingering as creamy vanilla, caramel and cinnamon gradually dissipate
Overall: Bottled at a higher abv than the unpeated 12 year old, and it really benefits from it. The peat smoke is obvious but not overpowering and acts more like a comforting blanket hugging the notes produced by the mix of oak casks. At a current price of under £50 this would make a really good introduction to the world of peated whisky.
