Arran Sauternes Cask Finish - 50%
From the distillery website
Our traditional Arran Single Malt is matured in oak casks for eight years and is then finished in a selection of Sauternes wine casks.
These Bordeaux sweet white wine casks are specifically selected by our Master Distiller from a talented small producer to ensure the notes from both wine and whisky make the perfect marriage.
Tasting notes:
Appearance: New gold in colour, forms a thin line which beads before gradually falling as thick, oily legs
Nose: Cantaloupe melon, lemon & lime cordial, toasted almonds and subtle florality
Palate: Buttery mouthfeel, honey, lemon zest, real vanilla ice cream, coastal brine, a hint of marzipan, subtle charred oak and warming cinnamon
Finish: Lingering honey, oak spice and a hint of woodiness
Overall: A very enjoyable, easy drinking dram despite the elevated abv. As might be expected with a Sauternes finish, it’s on the sweeter side but not cloyingly so. Instead, there’s a really nice balance between the Arran spirit and the cask.
Current price is around £55, so if you enjoy sweeter whiskies this one isn’t a bad option.
