Deanston 12 - 46.3%
Matured for 12 years in ex-Bourbon casks before bottling at 46.3% without chill filtration or artificial colouring.
Tasting notes:Appearance: Copper gold in colour, forms a thin line which beads before falling slowly as thick, oily legs
Nose: Barley sugar sweets, honeycomb toffee, candied orange and lemon peel, honeyed cereal, and freshly cut hay
Palate: Waxy with medium-full body. Sweet vanilla cream, honeyed malt, orange and lemon citrus, orchard fruit and oak spice
Finish: Long and lingering. Heather honey, orange citrus, vanilla and mildly astringent oak spice
Overall: My initial thoughts were to describe this as an easy sipper, but I don’t think that does it justice.
For a current price of around £40 you’re getting a whisky with great mouthfeel, plenty on the palate and a finish that kept me interested. If I was asked to find a whisky that would introduce someone to the character of Deanston it would be this one.
