Glen Scotia 12 - 46%

From the distillery website

Glen Scotia 12 Year Old becomes the heart of our core range, showcasing our distillery's signature style. With rich tropical fruits and costal sea spray, this single malt is quintessentially Glen Scotia, full of big Campbeltown character.

Matured exclusively in first fill bourbon barrels, wonderful layers of caramelised sugar sweetness balanced by subtle toasted oak, bottled at 46% and natural colour in keeping with our traditional Campbeltown style.

Tasting notes:

Appearance: Copper gold, forms a thin line which beads before falling slowly as thick, oily legs

Nose: Coastal breeze, tropical fruit, lemon citrus, vanilla ice cream and a hint of ginger

Palate: Mouthcoatingly thick and oily. Tropical fruit, particularly ripe pineapple and passion fruit, maritime saltiness, lemon posset, soft caramel, vanilla egg custard tart dusted with nutmeg, warming ginger and subtle oakiness

Finish: Long, lingering and warming with notes of vanilla, ginger spiciness, cinnamon, subtle oakiness and anise

Overall: Unmistakably a Campbeltown malt, with that typical oiliness and maritime saltiness. The biggest surprise was the huge tropical fruit ester notes in the first dram out of the bottle.

A very enjoyable whisky and, at a current price of around £45, affordable and great value for money.
