Wolfburn 10 Year Old – 46%

From the Wolfburn website

This 10-year-old single malt marks a significant milestone in the history of the distillery: it is our first permanent age-statement release. Crafted from spirit fully matured in hand-selected second-fill Oloroso sherry casks, a full decade in Spanish sherry oak has resulted in a delightfully sweet and sumptuous whisky – a fitting testament to the skill, dedication and patience of Wolfburn’s master distillers.

Tasting notes

Appearance: Burnished gold, forms a thin line which falls slowly as thick legs

Nose: Soft notes of California raisins, baked apple, vanilla pods and hazelnut cream

Palate: Soft, creamy mouthfeel, floral, baked orchard fruit, milk chocolate caramel toffees, vanilla ice cream, soft hints of blackberry, oak spice and subtle smoke. Becomes more creamy with a few drops of water

Finish: Caramel, vanilla and sultana sweetness and a hint of nutty oak linger

Overall: Delightful mouthfeel, rich and indulgently silky. Gentle, easy drinking and a decent level of complexity. Current price range is £60-70 which feels a little pricey for a 10 year old whisky, but it is their first age statement bottling and the quality is there.
