Tasting notes

Appearance: The colour of oak aged Chardonnay, forms a thin line which falls slowly as thick, oily legs

Nose: Baked apple, soft brown sugar, honeysuckle and a gentle hint of smoke

Palate: Creamy mouthfeel. Dried fruit, baked orchard fruit, Demerara sugar, oak spice, heather honey and black pepper warmth. With water it becomes creamier at the expense of some of the fruit notes

Finish: Oak spice, tannic astringency and over-caramelised sugar linger together with a little peppery prickle

Overall: It’s a decent dram, with a nice balance between sweetness and mild spice. There’s some drying tannins in there, but not enough to be unpleasant. Current price is an smidge under £70 which feels a little high for a 12 year old whisky at 46% abv, but it’s still in the ‘just about acceptable’ range.
