Compass Box - The Spice Tree - 46%

From the Compass Box website

The Spice Tree brings rich spice notes and intensity to our Scotch whiskies. This whisky has always been about one thing: oak-derived spice, fuelled by our very own hybrid-cask program

Aged in heavy toasted, new French oak sourced from 195 year-old Vosges forests and fashioned into our own bespoke hybrid casks.

Natural Colour, Not Chill-filtered

Tasting Notes

Appearance: New gold, forms a thin line which beads before slowly falling as thin legs

Nose: Fruit malt loaf, vanilla sauce, baking spices, particularly cinnamon and ginger

Palate: Baked apples, caramel sauce, vanilla cream, cinnamon, heather honey, nutmeg and warming ginger

Finish: Heather honey, caramel, cinnamon, clove oil and a prickle of ginger and black pepper

Overall: An enjoyable dram, as the name suggests it’s those baking spice notes which are very much to the fore, whilst baked apple, caramel and vanilla are still able to make their presence felt.

Although this has now been retired by Compass Box, there might still be a few on the shelves and decent value at the original retail price of £50.
