North British 13 Year Old, Lowland Single Grain, finished in a second-fill Sherry Butt and bottled at 50.1%
Tasting notes
Appearance: Deep gold in colour, forms a thin line which slowly falls as thick, oily legs
Nose: Dried fruit, dusty wooden shelves and baked potato skins
Palate: Thin mouthfeel. Initial golden syrup sweetness followed by chocolate covered honeycomb toffee, cinnamon buns, liquorice and oak spice
Finish: Sweet caramel, chocolate and liquorice linger, a mild struck match note appears at the close
Overall: There’s a very pleasant sweetness to this dram, and it would be fair to say the use of a second fill sherry butt has added depth and complexity to the spirit. Even the sulphur note in the finish isn’t unpleasant and adds a little more interest.
Current price is a shade under £54, not bad value at all.
