Wolfburn Morven - 46%
From the Wolfburn website
This lightly peated whisky is made from malted barley infused with smoke during the drying process. It’s a reflection of history – the original 19th-century distillery was largely fired by peat. Gentle distillation is followed by maturation in our purpose-built warehouses. The result is a beautifully smooth and rounded whisky.
Tasting notes
Appearance: The colour of Chardonnay, forms a thin line which falls slowly as thick, oily legs
Nose: Lightly smoked white meat, vanilla pods, honey, sweet dried fruit, coastal breeze
Palate: Caramel, Parma violets, dried fruit, drying woody oak and peppery warmth. With water, smoke is allowed to make an appearance together with a little more astringency
Finish: Woody oak gradually dissipates leaving gentle peat smoke to linger
Overall: A whisky which, for me, doesn’t quite live up to the nose. There’s just a little too much woodiness preventing all the best elements to shine, although addition of a few drops of water does help. However, that’s personal preference and if you enjoy lightly peated whisky a little on the oakier side, this is for you.
