Glen Scotia 10 - 40%

From the distillery website

Glen Scotia 10 year old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a perfect example of the distillery character and its coastal location.

Matured in 100% first fill bourbon barrels, on the nose there is fresh sea spray along with sliced apple, lemon zest and toasted oak. The mouthfeel is like smooth syrup, on the palate there is melted brown sugar, orange marmalade and tangy pineapple with creamy oak vanilla. A wonderfully long finish with gentle ground ginger and cinnamon spiciness. A true taste of Campbelltown.

A unique flavour profile of rich oils, green fruits and citrus, and our signature maritime nuances.

Tasting notes

Appearance: Burnished gold, forms a thin line which falls slowly as thick, oily legs

Nose: Pink Lady apples, lemon and orange citrus, soft brown sugar, mild oak woodiness and sea breeze

Palate: Soft, creamy mouthfeel, Crema Catalan, roasted pineapple, milk chocolate enrobed orange peel and warming ginger

Finish: Long and lingering, creamy vanilla, maritime saltiness and honey, whilst ginger and cinnamon bring spice

Overall: Considering this is a 40% abv whisky, there’s enough character and complexity to be pleasing, and that typical Glen Scotia oiliness prevents it from feeling too watered down. It’s a very easy drinker, but if you’re already familiar with the wider Glen Scotia range it will probably feel a little underwhelming.

At a retail price of around £45 it’s a decent introduction to the character of the distillery spirit, although that price point feels a little high for the quality. However, I managed to pick this one up on special offer at Sainsbury’s for £26. At that price, it’s hard to fault.
