Tasting notes
Appearance: New gold in colour, forms a thin line which falls slowly as thick, oily legs
Nose: Light and summery, green apples, Conference pear, Kiwi fruit and lemon citrus
Palate: Medium bodied turning creamy with time on the palate, orchard fruit, Kiwi fruit, vanilla ice cream, lemongrass, and white pepper spice. A few drops of water bring more creamy vanilla and reduces the peppery prickle
Finish: Orchard fruit, Kiwi fruit and slightly bitter candied Angelica. With water, more of a bitter herbal note and nutty oak spice appear
Overall: Glenlossie isn’t a distillery I’m too familiar with, rarely seen as a single malt other than occasional independent bottlings. It’s a decent dram which responds well to the addition of a little water. There’s a mix of summer fruit, mild sourness and herbs which makes it interesting. It’s not a profile that I would actively seek out, but I wouldn’t be unhappy if I was given a dram.
Priced currently at around £75 which seems like reasonable value for a cask strength bottling.
