Inchgower 8 Year Old, Speyside Single Malt finished in a first fill Château Talbot Barrique and bottled at 57.1%
Tasting notesAppearance: New gold with an orange/pink hue, forms a thin line which falls slowly as thick, oily legs
Nose: Orchard fruit, red berried fruit, lemon citrus and a mild vegetal note
Palate: Full bodied and creamy on the palate. Hedgerow berry jam, stewed orchard fruit, Walnut Whips, honey, green olives, treacle toffee, clove oil and black pepper spice. A few drops of water bring more of that red fruit and reduces the peppery prickle
Finish: Fruits of the forest jam lingers on the palate, mingling with treacle toffee, nutty oak spice and peppery heat. With water a touch more of that vegetal, green olive note is allowed to come through
Overall: This is such a good whisky, the use of the Château Talbot Barrique has taken the Inchgower spirit to new heights. For an 8 year old whisky there is so much going on in this one, I could happily sit and ponder all the nuances for more than a few hours. Dangerously easy to drink neat, but a touch of water adds to the overall experience.
Currently retailing at a touch under £70, great value and well worth a look.
