Wolfburn Langskip - 58%
From the Wolfburn website
A sweet, balanced and beautifully easy-drinking dram, Langskip’s strength is matched only by its smoothness. Matured entirely in first-fill bourbon casks, this whisky has a unique richness and an extraordinary depth of flavour. Bottled at 58% alcohol by volume, Langskip represents the very best of Wolfburn.
Tasting notes
Appearance: The colour of oak aged Chardonnay, forms a thin line which falls slowly as thick, oily legs
Nose: Baked apples, vanilla pods, lemon zest, juicy Conference pears, honeysuckle, subtle hints of dried fruit and oak spice
Palate: Soft, creamy mouthfeel with a burst of rich fruit and a touch of youthful prickliness. Baked orchard fruit, vanilla, California raisins, marzipan, caramel sauce, black pepper, cinnamon and ginger. A few drops of water bring out more dried fruit notes and add a little woody oak tannin astringency
Finish: Lingering raisin, citrus and caramel sweetness
Overall: It’s a very solid dram, full of rich, sweet fruitiness. At 58% it’s a little too prickly for me but a few drops of water really makes a difference, bringing more creaminess and enhancing the notes further.
Current price on the Wolfburn website is just under £58, really good value for a very decent whisky.
