Compass Box - The Story of the Spaniard - 43%

From the Compass Box website

This malt whisky blend, first released in 2018, showcases whiskies aged in Spanish wine casks. Inspired by an eponymously named bespoke whisky we created for a bar in New York City called The Spaniard, we decided to explore the sherried style further to create a whisky for our permanent range.

Natural Colour, Not Chill-filtered

Tasting Notes

Appearance: New gold, forms a thin line which beads before slowly falling as thin legs

Nose: Lemon citrus, red berried fruit, oak spices

Palate: Poached orchard fruit, red fruits, lemon citrus, honey, Crème Anglaise, cinnamon and ginger spice

Finish: Lingering vanilla cream, milk chocolate, red berries, cinnamon and a touch of black pepper

Overall: Definitely one that sits in the easy drinking category, very nicely crafted with more than enough to keep the palate happy. Looking at the recipe for this on the Compass Box website it’s clear this has gone through a number of iterations over the years, with Clynelish being the major element in earlier versions.

Another which has now been retired by Compass Box, but it’s likely there will still be a few on the shelves and decent value at the original retail price of £53.
