Tasting notes

Appearance: Burnished gold in colour, forms a thin line which falls as slow, thin legs

Nose: Russet apples, lemon citrus, dark brown sugar, cinnamon

Palate: Full-bodied, cinnamon apple Danish pastries, vanilla pod, lemongrass, burnt sugar and oak spice. A few drops of water bring more creamy vanilla and reduces the peppery prickle

Finish: Woody oak spice, cinnamon, clove oil and old leather

Overall: Very much on the savoury side of the whisky spectrum, which is something I enjoy. That typically full-bodied Blair Athol spirit character makes its presence felt, whilst the Oloroso influence is evident but well balanced and provides some really interesting notes, particularly with the addition of a little water.

Current price on Master of Malt is a shade over £70, great value again from Brave New Spirits.
