Tasting notes

Appearance: Burnished gold in colour, forms a thin line which falls slowly as thin, oily legs

Nose: Pear drops, soft caramel toffee, red berried fruit

Palate: Soft and buttery on the palate. Victoria plum jam, marzipan, orange oil, caramel toffee, gentle notes of charred oak and warming ginger. Water softens a little of the spice but doesn’t make a huge difference to the overall experience

Finish: Toffee pennies, hints of barrel char, chocolate enrobed orange peel, white pepper spice and a mild herbal note at the close

Overall: A highly enjoyable whisky from a distillery best known for its use in blends. It’s full of really lovely notes, sweet but well balanced, high abv but well integrated. There’s absolutely nothing to dislike.

Hats off to BNS, they have the uncanny ability to take spirit from lesser known distilleries and, with skilful and creative cask selection, manage to really highlight the quality.

Priced at just is currently around £75, really good value for a cask strength whisky from a distillery off the beaten track.
