Brave New Spirits - Whisky of Voodoo - Mask of Death 2 - 55%

From the Bottlers

Whisky of Voodoo is our range of special, small-batch single malt and single grain whiskies. Designed to entice and enchant, these carefully selected whiskies are matured and finished using the finest casks, often sourced from exotic, far-flung locations.

When planning each series of Whisky of Voodoo, we always ensure that we declare the age statement of each whisky, along with the region of origin. Whilst we don’t declare the distillery name on each bottle, we strive to ensure that we choose whiskies from some of the most revered distilleries in Scotland.

• All whiskies declare their region of origin and carry and an age statement
• Small batches
• Bottled at natural or cask strength (up to 59% abv)

Bourbon Barrels
Region: Speyside
Distillery: Dailuaine
Age: 10 yrs
Strength: 55%

Tasting Notes:

Appearance: Burnished gold, forms a thin line which beads before falling as slow, thin legs.

Nose: Apple crumble and custard, Turkish Delight, sultanas, slightly floral.

Palate: Crème caramel, baked Bramley apples, almond brittle, runny honey, Angelica, cinnamon warmth and peppery prickle. Water brings more creamy caramel, reduces the spice and adds a slight bitterness.

Finish: Becomes slightly more bitter and herbal alongside creamy vanilla custard and oak spice.

Overall: This is the second iteration of Mask of Death, this time just using ex-Bourbon barrels and bottled at a higher abv. The result is a very nicely balanced dram with a soft, creamy mouthfeel and more than enough to keep the palate entertained. Very good neat, but the addition of a few drops of water really brings more of that luxurious warm and creamy element to the fore.

Price point is £70-75 which feels a little on the pricey side for a 10 year old whisky but it’s not exorbitant, and for the money you get a really good example of a small batch, bourbon barrel matured Dailuaine at a very solid abv.
