Brave New Spirits Cask Noir - Mutiny on the Wyre Majestic - 56.8%

From the bottlers

Brave New Spirits Ltd proudly presents their new series of independently bottled Scotch Whiskies: The Cask Noir Editions.

Starting life in some of Scotland’s finest studios (aka “distilleries”) each release takes inspiration from classic movies and novels from a bygone era.  From thrilling and adventurous to dark, romantic and mysterious, these whiskies embark on a journey of discovery, into an exceptional world of exotic flavours and interesting & unusual casks.

Each production boasts a cast of characters carefully chosen, and perfect in their role. Each and every release is selected by an experienced panel, and the producer’s philosophy is quite simple: Taste is the key to the enhusiast's heart.

Our aim is to become renowned for high quality, delicious and interesting releases. We care about provenance & age, but the selection for each release is driven foremost by flavour.

Tasting Notes:

Appearance: Straw coloured, forms a thin line which beads before falling as slow, thick legs.

Nose: Barbecued pork, soft wood smoke, vanilla pods, baked apples and a touch of lemon citrus.

Palate: Sweet wood smoke, Bramley apple pie and Birds custard, oak smoked ham and a hint of brine, whilst cinnamon and black pepper provide spicy warmth. Water brings out lemon citrus and coconut cream together with accentuating the soft bonfire smoke and reducing the spicy prickle.

Finish: Vanilla sauce which gradually tapers off to leave soft bonfire smoke and a touch of cloves, cinnamon and black pepper. With water the soft smoke becomes more pronounced, enhancing the smoked ham note and extending the overall finish.

Overall: Another from the Cask Noir range, this is an absolutely delightful peated Bunnahabhain. Sweet, gently smoky and dangerously drinkable. Whilst it’s enjoyable neat, a few drops of water brings out so much more, delivering a sense of refined elegance. A peated whisky which would probably appeal even to those who aren’t fans of the medicinal peatiness of many Islay malts.
