Redbreast Lustau Edition - 46%
From the distillery
Born of a unique collaboration between the Bodegas Lustau and the Midleton Distillery, Redbreast Lustau Edition is initially matured in traditional bourbon and sherry casks for a period of 9-12 years. It is then finished for 1 additional year in first fill hand selected sherry butts that have been seasoned with the finest Oloroso sherry from the prestigious Bodegas Lustau in Jerez
Tasting Notes:
Appearance: Burnished gold, forms a line of medium thickness which beads before slowly falling as thick, oily legs.
Nose: Rich dried fruit, Heather honey, butterscotch toffee and toasted almonds.
Palate: Soft, mouthcoating arrival. Mixed dried fruit and nuts, candied orange peel, milk chocolate covered caramel, Scottish tablet, apple pie and ice cream with a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg.
Finish: Slightly astringent with nutty, tannic oak, caramel toffee, black liquorice, cinnamon and warming ginger
Overall: Beautifully balanced with enough sherry influence to add complexity and depth without straying into sherry bomb territory. This is a whiskey that sits comfortably in the approachable category, but still has plenty to offer the more seasoned drinker. It's a thoroughly enjoyable example of a pot still whiskey and, with a price around the £55 mark, I’d have no issue having a bottle in the cabinet on a regular basis.
