Mossburn x Foursquare Cask Collaboration - 57.7%

From the bottlers

Mossburn x Foursquare is the first in our annual Cask Collaboration Series.

The spirit started life as a classic expression of Speyside Malt Whisky, first aged for more than 12 years in ex-bourbon casks before re-aging in American oak casks that previously contained mature Foursquare rums.

Bottled at batch strength this limited edition release is complex and well balanced as a malt lovers have come to expect from Mossburn Speyside, with a subtle banana and vanilla on the nose, and rum/raisin undertones on the palate.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: The colour of an oak aged Chardonnay, forms a thin line which beads before slowly falling as thin, oily  legs.

Nose: Overripe banana, candied orange and lemon peel, mulled cider, roasted pineapple, vanilla caramel toffee and nutty oak.

Palate: Creamy mouthfeel, sweet and full of tropical flavours. Roasted pineapple, baked banana in a butterscotch sauce with rum and raisin ice cream, candied orange peel and a hit of spicy ginger.

Finish: Astringent nutty oak, candied fruit and butterscotch linger, together with peppery heat.

Overall: This is one of those whiskies where the rum cask really makes its presence felt. Hugely tropical, sweet and spicy. Rum cask whiskies can be hit and miss for me, but this is a very enjoyable dram and different enough to be worth consideration. Priced at £65, certainly not prohibitive for a whisky at 57.7% abv.
