Cragganmore 15 150th Anniversary- 48.8%

A limited edition, distillery exclusive bottling, double matured in heavily charred American oak hogsheads to commemorate their 150th anniversary.

Tasting Notes:

Appearance: Burnished gold, forms a thin line which beads before slowly falling as thick, oily legs

Nose: Roasted malt, honey, stone fruit, red apple skin and vanilla.

Palate: Full, creamy mouthfeel. Honey and vanilla at first, followed by stone fruit, oak spices and peppery warmth.

Finish: Long, lingering honeyed malt, warming oak spice and just a hint of barrel char.

Summary: A beautifully balanced, complex whisky with a rich, indulgent mouthfeel. As a celebration of the distillery history it’s a worthy expression for a 150th anniversary. The downside is that it’s a limited edition, distillery exclusive from Diageo so it goes without saying it’s not a cheap whisky, and this proved to be the deciding factor in not bringing a bottle back with me from a recent visit. However, if you’re looking for something a little out of the ordinary from Speyside, it’s certainly worth giving this some thought.
