Jura Cask Editions Pale Ale Cask - 40%
Distillery notes:
Jura Cask Editions celebrate the connection between the land and spirit, bringing together distinctive flavour profiles. Our Pale Ale Cask is born out of our whisky makers’ love of craft beer.
With this expression, we worked with specially selected breweries in a flavour led, creative and productive way.
We provided these breweries with whisky casks to create a signature pale ale. After a set seasoning period the casks are returned to us and ready to be used to finish our Jura Pale Ale Cask.
Cask finish: Initially matured in American White Oak ex bourbon barrels and finished in Pale Ale casks from select craft breweries.
Colour: Golden yellow
Nose: Honeyed cereal, vanilla spice and hints of pineapple
Taste: Bright and fruity, with sweet citrus and a subtle tropical hop character, rounding off with vanilla for a smooth and creamy finish
Tasting notes:
Appearance: Old gold, forms a thin line which breaks and slowly falls as thin, oily legs.
Nose: Pineapple cube sweets, vanilla, heather honey, coastal air and breakfast cereal bars.
Palate: Weetabix drizzled with golden syrup and soaked in hot milk, butterscotch toffee sauce, lemon barley water, vanilla pods, tropical pineapple and just a hint of smoke and hops.
Finish: Mild bitter hops and subtle smoke come to the fore, along with nutty, mildly drying oak.
Summary: Another pleasant, easy drinking whisky from Jura. The cask influence is noticeable but not overpowering and that gentle hoppy finish makes a nice addition. However, as with many Jura whiskies, it’s such a shame we will probably never know what this would be like without chill filtration and at a higher abv. Priced at a little under £40 which for me feels a little high, although not overly so in the current market.
