Hazelburn 10 - 46%

Hazelburn 10 is annual release only produced for 2 weeks every year. One of a small number of Scottish whiskies which is triple distilled before being matured for 10 years in ex-bourbon casks for 10 years.

Tasting Notes:

Appearance: Pale gold, forms a thin line which beads before falling as thin, oily legs.

Nose: Soft, fruity and floral. Fresh green apples, baked orchard fruit, citrus, vanilla, caramel and a mild grassiness.

Palate: Soft, oily mouthfeel. Vanilla pods, honeycomb toffee coated in milk chocolate, lemon zest, honey and a little peppery heat.

Finish: Long and lingering, milk chocolate with liquorice and a slightly herbal note.

Summary: One of those whiskies which doesn’t need a lot of analysis, it just does its job extremely well. With a lovely mouthfeel, gentle fruit, chocolate and honeycomb sweetness, it’s a whisky that is dangerously easy to drink. The price tends to be around the £50 mark or slightly above, a little high for me but it’s not produced in huge volumes and suffers from availability issues in the same way as other whiskies from the Springbank stable, so it’s not excessive.
