Lindores Single Malt MCDXCIV (1494) - 46%

From the distillery website

As the officially recognised site of the first recorded distillation of Scotch Whisky in 1494, which appears in the Exchequer Roll of the same year, Lindores is again taking its place in history with its Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Over 500 years after Brother John Cor, a Lindores monk, was commissioned by King James IV to turn 8 bolls of malt into Aqua Vitae, Lindores are delighted to re-open the history book.

We are delighted to bring our Lindores Single Malt Scotch Whisky MCDXCIV (1494) to whisky lovers the world over. Matured in a selection of Bourbon Barrels, Wine Barriques and Sherry Butts. Distilled from Kingdom of Fife barley through our distinctive ‘sister’ spirit stills and distillery bottled.

Long wash fermentation period coupled with an unusual sister spirit stills set up produces a malt of remarkable character for its age. The Sister Spirit Stills enhance and refine the wonderful flavours captured in the long fermentation period, through additional copper contact.

46% abv, natural colour and non-chill filtered.

Tasting notes

Appearance: Old gold, forms a thin line which beads before very slowly falling as thin, oily legs.

Nose: Soft and refined, stewed orchard fruit drizzled in caramel with vanilla custard. Just a hint of fresh hay and pear drop acidity peek through.

Palate: Creamy mouthfeel, apple crumble with a touch of cinnamon and lashings of vanilla custard.  Zesty lemon citrus and peppery spice join the party.

Finish: Medium length, soft and creamy with cinnamon warmth and a touch of drying oak.

Overall: A very enjoyable, elegant whisky. Soft and creamy with plenty of apple and vanilla notes. A great introduction to the range, and to the joys Lowland whiskies can offer. At a price of around £46, it’s also good value for money.
