Minor Case Rye Whisky - 45%
From the distillers..
Aged 2 years, this straight rye whiskey is finished in cream sherry casks for an unforgettable flavour with hints of butterscotch and dried fruit. Minor Case is a nod to its namesake, Minor Case Beam, great-grandfather to Stephen Beam who founded Kentucky’s renowned Limestone Branch Distillery. An exceptional distiller, Minor Case was making whiskey long before prohibition started 100 years ago, and his legacy lives on through Stephen Beam’s passion for crafting only the finest whiskey.
Had master distiller M.C. Beam not been stifled by Prohibition, we imagine his straight rye whiskey would taste a lot like the mature elixir we bottle today.
Tasting notes:
Appearance: Burnished gold, forms a thick line before falling as slow thick legs.
Nose: Light and restrained, popcorn drizzled in honey and dusted with cinnamon, sultanas and sweet caramel. With time, dry earth and dark berried fruits appear.
Palate: Initially, syrupy mouthfeel with sweetcorn and typical rye spice. Butterscotch toffee follows, together with dried fruit and characteristic sherry notes.
Summary: A decent marriage where the typical rye character is tempered by the use of Sherry casks. Not too sweet, this would make a decent sipper as well as a mixer.
Currently available at House of Malt for £44.95, not bad value and a good first step into the world of rye whiskies.
