Glasgow 1770 Golden Beer Cask Finish - 56.2%
Unpeated Glasgow 1770 spirit, first matured in First-fill Bourbon, before finishing in a PX Sherry cask that held Innis & Gunn Golden Beer for 3 months.
Tasting Notes:
Appearance: Deep gold, forms a thin line which beads before falling as slow, thin legs.
Nose: Pear drops, tart green apple and candied peel. With time, malted milk biscuits appears.
Palate: Deep, rich and interesting. Orange liqueurs, rich dried fruit, syrup sponge, the malty beer influence comes through late along with ginger spice. With water, more dried fruits and a little dark chocolate appear.
Finish: Medium in length, malty beer and dried fruit with a helping of ginger.
Overall: A really surprising dram with a huge surge of flavour on the palate which dissipates all too quickly leaving you wishing the finish was a little longer. Opens up well with a few drops of water, bringing more balance. It’s unusual and interesting and, at a price of £59 for 70cl, well worth keeping an eye out for.
