Glenburn 25 Blended Malt - 54.9% - AD Rattray
A 25 year old sherry matured blended malt from the A. D. Rattray Warehouse Collection, “single cask whiskies that are, in essence, "bin ends" - very limited numbers, often less than 50 bottles are available. At times we have a portion of whisky from a matured cask leftover from another project or from moving whisky from a larger cask to a different type of cask, for finishing. This whisky is too delicious to waste so we simply bottle it”.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Burnished gold, forms a thick line which beads before forming an inverted crown and falling as slow, thick legs.
Nose: Mixed nuts and raisins, red fruit, Demerara sugar, musty warehouses.
Palate: Rich dried fruit, garibaldi biscuits, fig rolls, dark chocolate, balsamic reduction, oak-aged Shiraz, beeswax, musty books and old leather furniture.
Finish: Drying, nutty oak and rich dried fruit, old library books.
Overall: It’s very easy to see why they didn’t want this whisky to go to waste. This is a malt with a range of notes you only really get from age. Lots of delicious, but not overstated, sherry notes intertwined with dusty libraries and leather armchairs. Lovely balance, one of those whiskies which brings a smile to your face with every sip. For me, it drinks beautifully neat, the addition of water is unnecessary and doesn’t really bring much extra to the party.
Priced at £115 so it’s not a cheap whisky, however in the current market many 25 year old whiskies are positioned significantly higher.
