Ben Nevis 10 - 46%

Distillery notes:

Ben Nevis 10 Year Old is a superb introduction to the distillery's style. Full-bodied with a whiff of peat, lots of tropical fruit, and hints of coffee and dark chocolate, this is a great example of western Highland whisky.

This 10 year old Ben Nevis single malt exudes some beautiful coffee, chocolate and toffeed peat notes, a firm representative of the Western Highland style.

Tasting notes:

Appearance: Pale straw, forms a thin line which falls quickly as medium/thick legs.

Nose: Initially quite closed, a little stone fruit and caramel gradually come through.

Palate: Stone fruit and tropical mango combine, followed by caramel mocha, peppery spice and just a hint of smoke.

Finish: Caramel toffee, mocha and a very light peat smoke linger on the palate along with a little peppery heat. Slight oaky astringency which gradually builds.

Summary: A solid, well-balanced, easy drinker with enough character to keep it interesting. Current price is usually a shade under £60, the biggest problem is availability. With a significant proportion of the distillery output headed over to Japan for use in the Nikka whisky blends from parent company Asahi Group Holdings, it means you don’t see a lot of Ben Nevis on the market outside of independent bottlers.
