Jura 8 Distillery Exclusive - 58.2%

An 8 Year Old Distillery Exclusive expression, matured in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels before being bottled at 58.2%

Tasting notes:

Appearance: Pale gold, forms a thin line which breaks and falls as slow, thin oily legs.

Nose: Tart green apples, melted butter, zesty lemon, vanilla, fresh pineapple, coconut cream, punchy alcohol.

Palate: Creamy, almost buttery, mouthfeel. Zesty lemon curd, coastal salt, green apples, coconut cream, vanilla custard, butterscotch toffee. Ginger and black pepper bring sharp spice.

Finish: Coastal brine and spicy pepper, addition of a little water increases the astringency but releases more stewed orchard fruit notes in addition to reducing the heat.

Summary: Very much a stripped back Jura with no cask finish or caramel colouring to hide behind. As such it’s a really interesting whisky, and is markedly improved by a few drops of water. The maritime element is more noticeable than in many of their bottlings and reminds you of their island heritage. Plenty to appreciate and nothing really to dislike.

Priced at £75 and only available from the Jura distillery.
