Jura 14 American Rye Cask - 40%

Distillery notes

Jura 14 Year Old American Rye Cask is a celebration of Jura’s bright community spirit; a close-knit group of around 212 individuals, whether you are coming from near or far, you can always rely on a warm welcome from this tiny island community. Every time you pour a glass, you’re raising a dram with the islanders who have a hand in making it and with every rye-spiced sip you will taste Jura’s bright and characterful spirit. A gift from our tiny island community to you.

Matured in American white oak ex bourbon and hand selected American Rye barrels, the casks deliver depth and complexity to our 14-year-old single malt with layered spice, aromatic, herbal and floral qualities.

Tasting notes:

Appearance: Honey gold, forms a thin line which falls as slow, thick oily legs.

Nose: Sweet and syrupy, heather honey, vanilla, milk chocolate, soft orange and cinnamon.

Palate: Creamy mouthfeel, butter pastries with an orange marmalade glaze, vanilla, butterscotch toffee, cinnamon and a hint of ginger spice.

Finish: Werthers Original toffees, honey and a little cinnamon and ginger warmth.

Summary: It's a gentle, easy drinker with a lovely mouthfeel. Less rye spice than anticipated but the influence is certainly noticeable. Overall, there is more than enough on the nose and palate to make it an enjoyable experience.

This usually sits around the £40 mark but I managed to pick this bottle up on offer at £30. If I'd paid full price I might quibble over the 40% abv but other than that it's hard to find fault.
