Tobermory 12 - 59.8% - AD Rattray

From the Isle of Mull, this Tobermory whisky is part of the AD Rattray Warehouse Collection and is an Individual Cask Release

Ex-bourbon cask matured, non-chill filtered, natural colour and cask strength at 59.8% ABV.

Tasting Notes:

Appearance: Pale white wine in colour, beads form and break to gradually fall as slow, thin legs.

Nose: Mild coffee notes, nutty caramel, a little vanilla and coconut.

Palate: Honey sweetness, zesty lemon and orange, sultanas, tobacco leaf comes through late. Water brings out more caramel sweetness and dried fruit.

Finish: The tobacco leaf lingers with the caramel, accompanied by black pepper and chilli heat.

Summary: Lovely mouthfeel, subtly complex and bags of spice. Good neat but a few drops of water bring out more of the character.

I tend to lean very heavily to the Ledaig side of the Tobermory bottlings, often at the expense of giving the unpeated malts a fair chance. In this instance, I’m glad I got the chance to sample it as this is a really well put together malt.

A big thank you to Mick at The Whiskey Chaps for the opportunity to try this one.
