Further Information
Perhaps the most striking distillery in Scotland, and with a growing reputation to boot. A cask for those with a sweet tooth, as fruity Speyside spirit and American oak work in perfect harmony.

Tasting Notes:

Appearance: Yellow gold, beads quickly before falling as very slow, thin legs.

Nose: Vanilla, caramel toffee, fresh orange peel and icing sugar which subsides with time in the glass to leave a more floral note.

Palate: Initial Demerara sugar sweetness gives way to dried orange peel, fresh apple, maple syrup and a little cooling menthol.

Finish: Malted milk biscuits, maple syrup, coconut teacakes, black liquorice, a hint of barrel char and chilli heat which builds. More cooling mint as the heat subsides.

Summary: Has a light, fresh nose which is slightly too sweet at first but settles nicely with time. On the palate this transforms remarkably to something far more complex and robust which keeps developing through the finish. Overall, I enjoyed this far more than the nose initially led me to believe. Definitely a whisky with enough under the bonnet to want to explore further.

Part of the AD Rattray Cask Collection, this is currently priced at £73 which seems reasonable for a cask strength whisky, non-chillfiltered 13 year old whisky of this quality.
