Fettercairn 12 Year Old 40%
From the distillery
Aged in American White Oak ex-bourbon barrels, Fettercairn 12 Years Old is the colour of sunlight and amber honey.
Nose: Honey with vanilla, pear and soft spices.
Taste: Refreshing nectarine, tropical fruit and roasted coffee. Flavours of sultanas and black toffee to finish.
Tasting Notes:
Appearance: Deep gold, forms a thin line which beads before falling as quick, thin legs.
Nose: Tropical fruit, stone fruit, vanilla and honey add sweetness.
Palate: Light on the palate, apricot and nectarine in abundance, with pineapple, honey, vanilla and a little peppery prickle.
Finish: Sweet, pineapple tropical fruit notes linger together with hints of tobacco leaf and soft spice.
Summary: A nice, light, easy drinking whisky with typical Fettercairn exotic fruitiness. Whilst the abv is a little disappointing at 40%, it still manages to show off the distillery character and the price tag of around £40 should really be taken into account with any verdict on this one.
This sample was part of a 5 dram tasting pack, purchased from The Spirits Embassy and used for a tasting session with Andrew Lennie, Brand Ambassador at Fettercairn Distillery.
