Initially matured in American White Oak ex bourbon barrels and finished in hand-selected Spanish sherry casks, this whisky is a full-bodied and indulgent single malt, the perfect winter warmer. ABV (Alcohol By Volume) - 40%
Colour: Deep mahogany gold.
Nose: Citrus fruits, caramel latte, sultanas and a hint of banana.
Taste: Coffee, maple syrup, apple pie, spicy mulled wine and a warming finish of vanilla and cinnamon.
Tasting notes:
Appearance: Deep tawny-gold, forms a wide line before beading then gradually falling as slow, thick legs.
Nose: Honey sweetness, dried fruit, caramel, hints of orange peel and vanilla together with ginger and cinnamon spice.
Palate: Baked apple, raisins and sultanas, toffee sauce, golden syrup, a touch of maltiness, followed by soft peat smoke and the lightly spicy ginger and cinnamon notes.
Finish: Medium in length, the sultanas linger a little before fading to leave gentle peat smoke, cinnamon warmth and a hint of tobacco leaf.
Summary: Jura have really raised their game over the last few years and this is a good example of that improvement. There is enough depth and complexity to make it both enjoyable and interesting, although it would be great to see this in a higher abv bottling. However, at around £40 for a litre bottle it would be unfair to complain, it's still a good drinkable whisky and represents exceptional value for money.
