Glasgow 1770 Triple Distilled - 46%

From the distillery website

Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Scotch Whisky – Triple Distilled is an incredibly smooth and vibrant addition to the Glasgow 1770 Signature Range.

Crafted from the finest malted barley; distilled three times in our traditional copper pot stills; combined with the incredibly pure water of Loch Katrine and matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and virgin oak casks, married together before bottling to produce an incredibly smooth and vibrant spirit.

Glasgow 1770 is always non-chill filtered and has natural colour only.

Nose: The nose opens up to sweet vanilla and white chocolate leading to fresh summer fruits of aromatic apple, pear and peaches.

Palate: The palate is well balanced and smooth with vibrant vanilla, soft caramel and double cream opening up to succulent orchard fruits and berries followed by delicate floral notes alongside a sweet almond nuttiness.

Finish: The finish is long and lingering with notes of rich honey, anise and black pepper and hints of warming woody spice.

Tasting Notes:

Appearance: Yellow gold, forms a thin line which beads quickly before falling as slow, thin legs

Nose: Light and delicate, vanilla custard slices, fresh orchard fruit, orange zest and a slight floral note. Crisp green apple slowly turns to red with time in the glass.

Palate: Beautifully creamy mouthfeel. Vanilla custard, creamy Cadburys caramel toffee, baked apple sponge, dark berries follow along with a mocha note. Baking spices add a little heat and prickle.

Finish: Long, sweet and creamy, the mocha note gradually takes centre stage.

Summary: This was the first sample of the night and what a great way to kick off the proceedings. The combination of orchard fruit, vanilla, caramel and baking spices is well balanced and, at a respectable 46%, a real pleasure to experience.

A few drops of water add a little more creaminess but this is a whisky I prefer neat. On the flip side, if you can be patient and give this more time in the glass then this one really opens up, giving even more of those fruit sponge and custard notes. Trust me, it’s worth the wait.

Currently £49 for a 50cl bottle so it’s not an inexpensive whisky and will find itself competing with some big hitters at the same price point. As with the other Glasgow 1770 bottlings I genuinely hope the pricing and choice of bottle size doesn’t put people off buying as these deserve to be seen and appreciated.
