Yellowstone Select Kentucky Straight Bourbon 46.5% abv

From the Limestone Branch distillery website

A delicate fusion of flavors from seventh-generation distillers, this straight bourbon features a handpicked blend of 4- and 7-year-old bourbons, for an exclusive old-fashioned whiskey that honors its deep family origins. 93 proof / 46.5% ABV

Tasting Notes:

Appearance: Burnished gold, forms a thin line before quickly falling as thin legs.

Nose: Fruit sweets, bubblegum, caramel, vanilla, slight grassy note, macadamia nuts, oak and a little ginger.

Palate: Slow introduction with a buttery mouthfeel. Vanilla comes to the fore, a hint of coconut and oak. Corn tortillas and brown sugar follow.

Finish: Caramel, a hint of new leather, more vanilla, rounded off with young oak and damp autumn leaves.

Summary: First thing to say is the nose on this whiskey is full of character, and the palate keeps up with its end of the bargain pretty well. There’s a little spice in there but it doesn’t dominate. The only downside for me was a musty, damp note on the finish, which spoiled the overall experience a little.

Personally, I would happily use this as a whiskey for cocktails, whilst I’m sure many will enjoy it neat or over ice.

Currently available at Master of Malt for a touch under £50.
