SPEY Trutina - 46%

From the distillery website

A small, hand-built, artisan distillery nestled amongst the foothills of the beautiful Cairngorm Mountains, still hand distilling in time-honoured traditions and widely acknowledged to be amongst the prettiest of all Scotland’s distilleries.

Trutina, in Latin, translates as honest & pure, and this release signifies the natural, simple characteristics of our distillery. 100% maturation in bourbon casks, bottled at 46%, non chill filtered and with no added colour.  Limited release of 18,000 individually numbered bottles.

Tasting Note by Charles MacLean

“Pale gold / white wine appearance. A light nose, with an initial savoury top-note on a fruity base (white grapes, apple blossom, lychees in syrup), developing floral notes, with a hint of boiled sweets.

Light texture, with a sweet start leading to crisp acidity and notes of scented sweets, with a finish of white chocolate. An elegant malt !"

Tasting notes:

Appearance: Pale, white wine colour, forms a narrow line which falls quickly as thin legs.

Nose: Green apples, citrus fruits, turning floral with a little time. Blackcurrant Ribena, hints of green grape, icing sugar

Palate: Green apple tartness, lemon citrus, vanilla, coconut cream, honey, white pepper spice.

Finish: Sweet at first, before turning slightly bitter.

Summary: A light, summery whisky. Lots of pleasant citrus and floral notes balanced by honey and vanilla, with just enough spice to keep it interesting. A pleasant easy drinker, although the slightly bitter finish spoilt it a little for me.
