SPEY Chairman’s Choice - 40%
Tasting Note
"Rich and deep amber in colour. The aroma is floral with fruit and a touch of vanilla. Flavours of dried fruits with a soft nutty and long creamy finish. Mellow cinnamon and sweet oak with a gentle and rounded aftertaste. A very approachable and satisfying malt whisky with bags of character."
Tasting notes:
Appearance: Golden, creates a thin line before gradually beading and leading to thin, slow legs.
Nose: Vanilla, dried fruits, orange peel, berried fruit making an appearance, almost to the point of strawberry jam. A mocha note emerges with time in the glass.
Palate: Dundee fruit cake with a mocha on the side. Almonds, vanilla, dried fruits, orange peel, milky coffee and chocolate with a hint of cinnamon heat.
Finish: A little oak, more fruit and a slight note of old leather.
Summary: It’s a very easy drinker with lots to commend. Currently bottled at 40%, I’d love to see what a higher abv would offer as there’s a feeling this one has a lot more to give. Priced at £65, which feels a little high for the abv but it’s still a very enjoyable dram.
